ICONIC BRITISH BAND TO HEADLINE CARNIVAL FIFTY SIX IN DUNDEE WITH AN UNMISSABLE SET
THE CHARLATANS, the iconic British band whose anthemic sound has defined a generation and earned them a reputation as one of the greatest of all festival bands, are today announced as joining the lineup for CARNIVAL FIFTY SIX, Scotland’s hottest new music festival which takes place in two weeks time.
Back with what is being widely hailed as their best album in 20 years, the exhilarating, joyful ‘Different Days’, THE CHARLATANS are in stunning form. With a sound grounded on the band’s own indestructible chemistry, the new album’s contributors include The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, guest drummers (ex-Verve man Pete Salisbury and New Order’s Stephen Morris) plus spoken word by Ian Rankin.
Twenty-seven years since they first bagged a number one album with ‘Some Friendly’, and 13 albums down the line, THE CHARLATANS have reached a higher state of grace. The much-loved band are still achieving fresh career highs, dreaming up new music that redraws their own map. Their trajectory has few parallels in British rock and ‘Different Days’ finds them forward-looking and never more self-defining or relevant.
THE CHARLATANS will join RUDIMENTAL as unmissable Mardi Gras Main Stage headliners on Sunday 13th August in what is guaranteed to be a blistering weekend at Camperdown Park in the heart of Dundee.
With over 100 artists and back-to-back quality guaranteed across 7 stages, the heaving-with-quality line up also includes MARK RONSON, BASEMENT JAXX, THE FRATELLIS, THE CUBAN BROTHERS, SASHA, THE KYLE FALCONER BAND, HOT CHIP, HONEYBLOOD and PRIDES plus many more, as well as the finest names in the electronic genre and a sublime indie and guitar-based offering, plus rip roaring comedy, serious levels of tastebud tickling food and drink, and a VIP Secret Garden experience.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Festival Director Craig Blyth said,
“The Charlatans are one of the greatest festival bands of all time and we couldn’t be happier to be announcing them as a Sunday headliner for this year. Get ready to be blown away at what is guaranteed to be a legendary “were you there” Carnival Fifty Six moment. The band’s iconic back catalogue speaks for itself and this unmissable show at Camperdown will be the first opportunity to hear the new album, hailed as their greatest work in 20 years. For anyone who hasn’t yet secured their ticket, there are only two weeks to go so don’t miss out.”
